Communication Webwise

A new software sysytem called Communication webwise will be launched in 2004 by Widget. It will enable individuals with learning difficulties with easier and greater accessibility to information displayed on websites using its own Rebus symbol system.

Developed in the 1960s in the USA, the Rebus symbols is a support system for langauge development designed for people with learning difficulties.

How does Webwise work?

Information is presened into other symbols

Font size of plain text can be changed

Links are given a uniform colour to help with navigation.

Education consultant Chris Hopkins who works closely with Widget explains the advantages of Webwise

"It's aimed at people who would otherwise not be able to access the internet because they
can't understand the text.... Because the organisation of the page that they're looking at is so complicated they can't find what they want."
